Most people who know about tahini understand the sesame paste as simply one of the building blocks of hummus. But for Amy Zitelman, our CEO and co-founder, the culinary potential of tahini goes far beyond hummus. In The Tahini Table: Go Beyond Hummus with 100 Recipes for Every Meal, tahini is introduced to home cooks as a new pantry staple that can be used in recipes from dips to desserts.

Although tahini’s historical roots are in the Middle East, Amy’s goal through both this cookbook and Soom Foods is to stretch the borders of tahini, presenting hacks for how to use sesame butter as a replacement for dairy, eggs, and so much more. In the 100+ recipes this book offers, tahini is incorporated into everyday cooking in unexpected ways that each family can enjoy together.

From Vegan Mac and “Cheese” and Tahini Chicken Schnitzel, to Chocolate Halvah French Toast and Tahini Flan, Zitelman writes with the home cook in mind, incorporating tahini into everyday cooking in delicious and unexpected ways. With beautiful color photos, contributions from top restaurant chefs, and easy substitutions for a variety of diets, The Tahini Table proves that tahini is the next must-have pantry staple for home cooks everywhere.

The photos make you want to make everything and the recipes live up to the pictures! I’ve made several recipes and have loved them. The beet hummus is amazing as if the roasted carrot Tahini. I also loved mom’s chicken and took the suggestion of using leftover chicken for chicken salad. Both excellent!

This would be a great housewarming gift for any home cook!

I love this book! I’m so glad that I included it in my first Soom Foods order a few months ago. (I’ve since placed two more orders for tahini and silan.) I’ve been reading and collecting cookbooks for almost a half century. “The Tahini Table” is one of the best cookbooks I’ve purchased in the past five years. The required ingredients are easily accessible. The instructions are clear, approachable, and accurate. That makes it a great book for new home cooks. For those of us who are more veteran cooks, this book serves as a creative springboard. As I read through the recipes, I thought about how to transform my current recipe repertoire to include tahini and silan. TIP: Before embarking on your journey, please read the Introduction and Chapter One. You’ll learn some really cool stuff about the company and about tahini and other pantry ingredients. Bon appétit!
