Volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House

Last night was truly a special night.

The Soom Crew volunteered to cook dinner for the families at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House.  Patients and their family members of both St. Christopher’s Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children joined us for a pasta dinner. We whipped up some delicious baked ziti, plain pasta to top off with sauce and meatballs (or a vegetable ragu), garlic bread that was gone in seconds, and an accompanying salad and Soom tahini dressing. We cannot forget to mention the yummy ice cream and cookies to end the night!

Family members of some of the Soom Crew members joined us in this hospitable occasion, and made efforts to make our guests feel like a part of our own family.

Learning the story behind the Ronald McDonald House was inspiring. The charity was started by donations from the Philadelphia Eagles back in the 1970s with the first house located in Philadelphia. We were also given a tour of the House we visited last night, and it was such a heartwarming experience to learn about the individuals who stay here, the treatments the children go through, and the services that are all donated to the House.

We are very thankful to be an active member in our community, and we look forward to hosting more dinners for these families in the future!

All my love,

Julie
